It won’t look too much at first glance, but you will be fortunate to get an advance look inside a new Museum being developed which, when open, will provide an interesting look at the history and, particularly the culture of the local Portuguese, and how they are working not to lose it. If you stay for a night delightful seafood dinner of the local Portuguese Malaysian fusion cuisine you will be very pleased. There is much to choose from the large number of different restaurants available. You will find there an eclectic mix of tourists and locals enjoying a meal in bright and colorful Square, right on the edge of the Straits of Malacca. There is Portuguese singing and dancing on an outdoor stage at the weekends which, doubtless, would add a great deal of extra atmosphere. Use a taxi, which is very cheap in Malaysia, to get there in comfort.

The Portuguese Square is only an area of eateries and restaurants, which is very disappointing as you do not really get much of Portuguese influence there. The other side of the coin is the food. It is good, inexpensive and offered on the roadside but table & chair service is available.
